One of the key aspects of Joker 2 is the sound. Not only because of the musical part, but also because of its meaning and symbolism with the character.
Sound in Joker 2 will be very important. Composer Hildur Guðnadóttir has spoken about how establishing the sound of the world in Todd Phillips’ first film helped lay the foundation for the second installment. Joaquin Phoenix will return in the sequel as Arthur Fleck, who will live in Arkham Asylum after his numerous crimes. Lady Gaga will join him as Harleen Quinzel, aka Harley Quinn. Although details of the film have been kept secret, it has been revealed that it will be a musical. And this is something that really confused all the viewers.
The development of sound founded the world, but also its protagonist
In an exclusive interview with Screen Rant to promote Mystery in Venice, Hildur Guðnadóttir previewed some of her work on the future Joker 2. The composer spoke about how the sound of this world was created in the first part. This is the starting point for the second part. He has also stated that the sound of this world is an integral part of Joaquin Phoenix’s character.. And knowing all of this helped them work on new aspects of the world, as is the case with the songs developed for the sequel.
“I think the process was the big difference for me, since we already have the sound world of the first part,” said Hildur Guðnadóttir. “We basically established it in the first film. I think the soundscape of this film is incredibly tied to the character and a very important part of the overall story. I think the big difference with Joker 2 is that we basically knew what sound he was playing in that movie. And that made the process a little different. It’s not about searching while working, but about working in a world that exists. And from there work on something new. Like songs and all those things. It was fun”.
