Josema Pelayo speaks to Andalusia Information about INPURO

A new music event is born in Jerez, it’s Inpuro. An encounter between urban music and flamenco.

Who is behind it and when will it be held?

I have always defended that the origins of all music lie in the fusion, in the mix, in the union of different styles and cultures… This idea arises because in my studio there are more and more groups that mix flamenco and urban music. are mixing.

Since Jerez is the center of flamenco, why not bring these artists together, allow them to participate in a meeting and make it easy for them to display their art in a public show.

Which institutions, public or private, support it?

As soon as we presented the idea, we got a lot of support. Originally the youth sector of the Jerez City Council, but belonging to the Fundarte, the Sector of Culture and the AIE (Association of Artists, Interpreters and Performers). For the following editions we count on the support of the Cadiz Provincial Council from Barcelona, the SGAE Foundation, the Andalusian Institute of Flamenco and the digital distributor Satellite. Everyone has shown interest.

Artists such as Luis de Periquin, Elena Salguero, Carlboro of Space Surimi and Manuela Parrilla are on the bill. What were the criteria while choosing these artists?

We wanted to represent flamenco artists with projection and who have done a lot of work in my studio (Luis de Pericín and Manuela Parrilla) and others who come directly from urban music (Elena Salguero and Carlboro Light -from Surimi-). We are well aware of your work and your desire to explore new avenues. Surely something very interesting will come out of these meetings.

There will also be other guest stars. Is anything predictable in this regard, or will it be a surprise for the viewers?

Well, in theory Joselette de Musho Gitano and Bastien Gypsy, and other names to be confirmed.

According to your professional criteria and your experience in music, what is the relation between urban music and flamenco?

I think we are going through an important moment in exploring new territories as far as flamenco is concerned.

Every year, new artists join flamenco festivals with new proposals, which is essential to attract youth to our art form.

Is this a one-time event or do you have any idea that it will be held for more years and thus establish itself in the musical and cultural calendar of Jerez de la Frontera?

Of course, it was born with the intention of sustainability, and not only as a concert, but also as a cultural event where other disciplines such as graphic arts, fashion and audiovisual shows take place.
