Junior and Nacional, from more to less: draw in the Metropolitano

From an intense first half with multiple scoring options to a close complement played away from the goals, this was the match between Junior de Barranquilla and Atlético Nacional that ended in a 1-1 draw at the Roberto Meléndez Metropolitan Stadium on matchday 12, BetPlay League 2023-II. Both teams finished the game with 10 players.

Intense first time on the metro

The game started with intensity and the scoring started quickly. Junior had a free kick in his favor three quarters of the way up the field and charged quickly. Dorlan Pabón was watching the game closely, but in his desire to score, he knocked down José Enamorado in the penalty area. The central judge ordered a penalty after a VAR review. Carlos Bacca demanded the ball and, full of confidence and determination, stormed towards Kevin Mier’s right post, who didn’t guess the direction and went to the opposite side.

The game maintained its momentum and Atlético Nacional quickly reached a draw. The visitors took advantage of the space left vacant by Junior de Barranquilla’s defense to do damage as Jefferson Duque assisted Álvaro Angulo, who picked up in the middle of the field, advanced and fired a powerful mid-range shot that beat goalkeeper Jefersson Martínez .

The game continued to go back and forth as both teams relied on their offensive strengths to do damage. Dorlan Pabón had two clear chances to score. First with a mid-range shot that hit the post, and then with a powerful cross shot that called for the home goalkeeper, who sent the ball aside with his fists.

Closed and emotionless match

Things stayed the same in the second half. Junior de Barranquilla and Atlético Nacional went in search of victory. Although those led by Arturo Reyes were the owners of the ball, it was the Greens who created a little more danger by taking advantage of each of their counterattacks.

As the minutes passed, the intensity decreased and the game began to play in the middle of the pitch, not to mention that the game was stopped due to the constant fouls far from the pitches and the multiple changes of both coaches. Both Antioqueños and Atlanticenses took precautions in the final minutes of the game.

In stoppage time, Junior de Barranquilla only had 10 points. The central referee sent Andrey Estupiñán off the field for a double warning for a foul on Neyder Moreno in the middle of the pitch. A minute later, the referee Álvaro Angulo showed a direct red card for a foul on Deiber Caicedo.
