Junior beats up Alianza Petrolera and returns to the eight

Junior from Barranquilla and a new victory to further increase the confidence to enter the fight for the classification positions and continue the winning streak. The Arturo Reyes-led players defeated Alianza Petrolera 1-5 on day eleven of the BetPlay League 2023-II at the Daniel Villa Zapata Stadium in Barrancabermeja. The locals, for their part, came from the eight.

Junior reverses the score

The game started with intensity and the scoring began quickly after the central referee ordered a penalty in favor of the locals for a foul by Jermein Zidane Peña on Jesús Muñoz. In the 6th minute, Sebastian Acosta demanded the ball and confidently and decisively took the stick from the left hand of Jefersson Martínez, who did not guess the direction and went to the opposite side.

The VAR, which minutes earlier had annulled a goal play in favor of Alianza Petrolera, informed the central referee of a foul by Sebastián Acosta on José Enamorado. The referee showed him the second yellow card and sent him off the pitch, so César Torres’ team played the entire second half with 10 players.

Things changed a bit in the second half. Alianza Petrolera tried to score a goal while Junior de Barranquilla played with calm on the scoreboard and did not wear out but maintained his attacking orientation to be able to increase the result by taking advantage of the extra player.

The Barranquilleros scored their fourth goal of the game in the 61st minute. After a great connection in attack, Edwin Herrera received a pass filtered from the left and sent a precise cross to the assist of Cariaco González, who again beat goalkeeper Pier Grazziani with a header.

Ten minutes later the fifth came. Luis González filtered a pass for Deiber Caicedo, who took an open shot that was parried by the Alianza Petrolera goalkeeper. The goalkeeper missed the rebound, which Gonzalo Lencina, who had just come in, took advantage of it. The Argentine only had to shake his rival’s head to shake his hand.

With this result, Junior de Barranquilla climbed to sixth place in the standings with 16 points, while Alianza Petrolera dropped to ninth place with 15 points. The next day they face Atlético Nacional and Independiente Santa Fe respectively.
