The Secretary of the Department of Justice, Domingo Emanuelli Hernández, reported this Sunday that the Mayagüez Prosecutor’s Office filed charges of incest and sexual assault against Christ Dennick Ortiz Millán, accused of sexual abuse and attack on his two-month-old son.
“As the Secretary of Justice and a father, this case saddens me greatly. The actions alleged are horrific and unthinkable. The Prosecutor’s Office will strictly prosecute him until the final consequences,” said Emanuelli Hernández, who stressed that “protecting children is up to all of us in society.”
Ortiz Millán was charged under the Law for the Prevention of Abuse, Preservation of Family Unity and for the Safety, Welfare and Protection of Minors.
According to the investigation conducted by the authorities, the child was under the care of his father when his mother, Kerian Mari Quiñones Cancel, arrived at their house and found that he had many bruises on his body.
The accused told him that the minor fell on the bed, but the doctor found that there were skull and rib fractures, which were not consistent with a fall. Also, he was diagnosed with lacerations and trauma in the anal area, compatible with sexual assault.
Judge Luis Padilla Galiano determined the cause of arrest against Ortiz Millán and imposed bail at $120,000. The man was sent to jail after failing to make bail.
Regarding this case, the administrator of the Administration for Families and Children (ADFAN), Glenda Gerena Ríos, explained that the agency’s social team intervened and assumed emergency custody of the infant and his five-year-old brother.
“Our objective at Familia is to protect and guarantee the safety and best interests of the populations served. That, precisely, is what we did in this case. “The two minors are protected, stable and under the care of DF,” the official detailed in written statements.
