British actor Kate Beckinsale believes she might be too smart for her own good.
On Wednesday’s The Howard Stern Show, the Underworld star suggested that such brightness “could have been a hindrance” to her career.
She recalled how, as a child, she was told that her IQ was 152 points, and even called her mother on the air to confirm this figure.
“It’s almost Einstein’s level,” said radio host Howard Stern.
“Oh, if only I had an IQ of 152,” he added.
“You don’t know,” Beckinsale replied. “Every doctor, every person I have ever come across said, ‘You would be much happier if you were 30% less intelligent,’ and I’m sure that’s true.”
“But this is not good for me. It doesn’t really help me in my career, ”she added. “I just think it could actually be a hindrance.”
Beckinsale did not explain why such a high IQ was a hindrance. She also did not provide testing details. The Mensa High IQ Club accepts people who score 132 or higher on the school’s Cognitive Exams.
Stern asked how Beckinsale’s quick wits had influenced her love life.
“I have always found that I can forgive a lot if someone is funny,” she replied. “So, in someone funny there is a certain degree of intelligence that I can relate to.”
