Kerala Assembly passed resolution to remove Lakshadweep Administrator

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Monday urged the central government to intervene in the Lakshadweep case and immediately remove its administrator.

Vijayan moved a resolution in the state assembly declaring solidarity with the people of Lakshadweep. He said that the Center should intervene in the Lakshadweep case and it is the responsibility of the Central Government to ensure the protection of the interests of the people.

The CM of Kerala also demanded the removal of the controversial administrator of Lakshadweep, who has taken some dubious decisions in recent times.

Pinarayi Vijayan said, “The administrator challenging the interests of the people should be removed and the Center should take immediate action to protect the lives and livelihoods of the people of Lakshadweep”.

According to reports, the Kerala Legislative Assembly’s proposal on behalf of the Chief Minister has been unanimously passed.

Meanwhile, the CPI (M) State Secretariat has decided to hold a protest in front of the Lakshadweep offices in Beypore and Kochi on 31 May, accusing the central government of trying to abolish the exclusive rights of Lakshadweep.

However, Lakshadweep Collector S. Askar Ali has defended the laws imposed by Administrator Praful Khoda Patel and said that these administrative decisions will help the Union Territory to develop like Maldives, which will benefit the local residents.

Last week, several leaders, including Lakshadweep MP and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Mohammad Faizal, have demanded a new administrator in the Lakshadweep Islands.

Faizal accused Patel of enforcing anti-people rules and regulations and urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah to ‘listen to the voice of the local people and send a new administrator’.

The Congress had written a letter to President Ram Nath Kovind, alleging that Lakshadweep’s current administrator Praful Patel had taken “authoritarian steps” and demanded his recall.
