There is only a month left until the start of the 2023 Pan American Games in Santiago, an event where the Chilean U23 team will go in search of a medal, and Eduardo Berizzo already knows Chile’s rivals in the group stage. Now the DT must confirm the payroll with which he will face this challenge.
The roster will consist of 18 players, three of whom may be older than that age. For this reason, in the different microcycles that he has carried out, the Argentine has tried different names, all taken from the local tournament, since it is not a FIFA date and the clubs are not obliged to renounce them.
The Sub-23 figures that would be in Santiago
Lucas Assadi: He was also able to make his adult debut with Berizzo and took part in almost all U23 micro cycles. The Pan American Games would be a great showcase for a possible move abroad.
Damián Pizarro: The attacker has earned a starting place in Colo Colo, where he enjoys the full trust of Gustavo Quinteros. Only one instance of indiscipline has excluded him from La Roja since the last summons.
Vicente Pizarro: The midfielder has become more important in Colo Colo and it shows every time he plays. His good stance and distribution of play could contribute a lot to Berizzo, for whom possession is always one of his main weapons.
Alexander Aravena: “Monito” has had a consolidated 2023, which is the most pleasing thing about the poor campaign of the Universidad Católica. The UC striker has always responded, including at the adult level, where he made his debut in the friendly that ended with a 3-2 win against Paraguay on March 27.
The experienced ones who could fill the three places
Brayan Cortés (28 years old): The goalkeeper is considered one of the favorites for one of the three places for players who can be over 23 years old. The goalkeeper has adult experience and could be the great leader of this national team.
Matías Zaldivia (32): The U-defender made his national team debut with Berizzo and was one of the constant names in the microcycles. Of course, his recent shoulder injury could complicate his eventual participation in the Pan American Games, as he has only just begun his recovery, which is estimated to take between three weeks and a month.
Marcos Bolados (27): The Colo Colo striker is not a regular for Gustavo Quinteros, but is definitely liked by Berizzo. The former Antofagasta has been on several payrolls and his ability to adapt to different positions is viewed positively by Juan Pinto Durán.
