The intense rains of the past few days have created a state of emergency in municipalities north and east of Caldas.

The road connecting Aranzazu to Salamina is frequently closed due to landslides in Cuatro Esquinas, San Jose and La Union; On the Neira-Manizales highway, landslides and falling trees, boulders, and flooding have occurred, such as what happened over the weekend in the village of La Honda.

One of the most worrying situations in the north is the rural roads west of this municipality at important points in Aranzazu, which have cut off 20 villages from Aranzazu and Philadelphia such as San Rafael, Buena Vista, El Rocío, La Meseta, among others. La Quinta, La Pella, Churimels, among others.

The Romeral Fault in Partidas has caused a major landslide since last year, causing damage to the bank and forcing users to cross on foot with this risk. On Monday, a backhoe from the mayor’s office reached the spot to make way. Residents hope that the government and municipalities of Aranzazu and Philadelphia will join forces to build a causeway through the Las Maraneras area.

Heavy overnight rains damaged the highway, causing landslides, flooding, and muddy roads in the urban areas of La Milagrosa, El Carcamo, El Progreso, and Villa Nueva. Many families were evacuated.
