Ovidio Porras, an 86-year-old man was arrested for allegedly killing his wife inside their home in Queens (NYC).
The suspect was charged with murder, tampering with physical evidence and criminal contempt in connection with the death of 78-year-old Luz Porras.
According to New York Police, the elderly woman was found with bruises on her face at the bottom of a staircase inside the couple’s 91st Street home in the Woodhaven neighborhood around 8:20 p.m. Wednesday. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
It was initially unclear whether the elderly woman was the victim of a crime or had accidentally fallen down the stairs. Investigators now say the couple was fighting when the older man allegedly killed his wife. However, it is still unclear how she ended up at the bottom of the stairs, Pix11 said.
The medical examiner has yet to determine his cause of death while the investigation continues.
A police spokesman told QNS.com that detectives had taken the man in for questioning the night of the death. Based on that interview and further investigation at the scene, they proceeded to arrest him and charge him with murder.
Police also believe that he possibly moved the body and/or tampered with the crime scene, leading to an additional charge of tampering with physical evidence.
All charges are only allegations and the person charged is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
Estar en una relación abusiva es complicado. El amor, los niños, la familia, la comunidad, el dinero, la seguridad – irse nunca es tan facil.
