Six names have already been added to the list of Caldense candidates for 2022. The most recent members are Pablo Jaramillo Villegas and Gerardo Vanegas Alzate, prominent leaders in the educational and social fields, respectively.
The Caldas Development Corporation (CDC) and its Board of Directors name Jaramillo Villegas “for his invaluable contribution to the education and development department”, while Argoznet (Café Internet) names Vanegas Alzate because “the creator of various economic models and projects both in the city and in Caldas”.
Jaramillo Villegas, manager of the Lukeri Foundation in Manizales since 2013, is an industrial engineer with a postgraduate degree in Coffee Economics and a Master of Science in Agricultural Administration from the University of Reading (England). He was the head of social development of the Caldas Coffee Growers Committee and excelled in leading various educational programs. Likewise, through a partnership between the Lucerne Foundation and more than 17 Institutions, a program has been implemented that has expanded access to tertiary education, going from 3 out of 10 students to 7 out of 10 in 2021. “The achievements are high. The impact, when there was an 8% improvement in the performance of the Saber 11th national tests, compared to those who did not (2017). In 2013, only 11% dreamed of having their own business. Today, 49% dream of doing so, 80 % of degree programs continue to study or work once they graduate from a technical program,” say the CDC.
Another program that stands out is the University at your school, which offers 30 technical and 10 technological programs. Also, it is completed in 89% of all the urban institutions of Manizal, and at present trains about 8346 students. 12,346 young people were enrolled in the technical field and 1,828 in the technological field. In addition, the Luker Foundation has transferred the model to two other cities in the region, such as Bogotá, Pereira, while four other cities are carrying out a methodological transfer to implement a viable program (Pennsylvania, Tuluá, Santa Marta and Palmira).
Vanegas Alzate is a business management and specialist in Corporate Social Responsibility. For 30 years he has been a social leader in different sectors and is the executive director of the Friends for Columbia collective. Proposing the replacement of the animal-drawn vehicle and the environmental subpoena, councilor of Manizali (2008-2011), member of the board of directors and president of the fourth committee on the environment, culture, recreation and sports.
