NEW YORK – LeBron James of the Los Angeles Lakers and Kevin Durant of the Brooklyn Nets could be headed for another rematch at the NBA All-Star Game.

James is the overall leader in All-Star voting, and Durant leads all Eastern Conference players in early voting results, putting him on track to become an All-Star captain for the third straight year.

James had 3,168,694 votes entering Thursday, leading the list of Western Conference frontline players. Denver’s Nikola Jokic is second (2,237,768) and Lakers’ Anthony Davis (2,063,325) is third.

Durant leads Eastern Conference frontline players with 3,118,545 votes, just ahead of Milwaukee’s Giannis Antetokounmpo (2,998,327) and Philadelphia’s Joel Embiid (2,226,712).

Golden State’s Stephen Curry leads all point guards/guards with 2,715,520 votes. Luka Doncic of Dallas is No. 2 among West guards with 2,388,502 votes.

Among shooting guards in the East, Kyrie Irving of Brooklyn leads with 2,071,715 votes and Donovan Mitchell of Cleveland is second with 1,637,374 votes.

The three front line players and two shooting guards who receive the most votes from each conference will be selected as starters, with each conference’s voting leader serving as captain and selecting their teams.

The headline vote accounts for 50% of the fan vote, media ballots count for 25%, and ballots cast by NBA players count for the other 25%.

James has captained the last five uses of the process, going 5–0 in All-Star Games. His team beat a Durant-selected team in 2020 and 2021, defeated Antetokounmpo-selected teams in 2018 and 2019, and defeated a Curry-selected team in 2017.

Voting will continue till January 21. The captain and starters will be announced on January 26. The reserves selected by the NBA coaches will be announced on February 2 and the game will take place on February 19 in Salt Lake City.
