Venezuelan riders Sonny Leone, Edgar “El Tendon” Perez and Michel Sanchez were among the most outstanding last weekend on the United States circuit.
Leon, the brand new winner of the 2022 Kentucky Derby aboard Rich Strike, won the Armed Forces Stakes held as the tenth race at Gulfstream Park last Saturday with a prize of $65,000, a test that Marcos Menaces, also a national, took. Second place with Cheerful Charlie.
Leon won through the Concepts on Friday, to reach 121 victories in the season and 820 for life in the United States.
Edgar “El Tendon” Perez continues with an excellent season by visiting Winners’ Park six times.
Perez started the week with Boris in the sixth race, tap gold in the seventh and to repeat with Poema in the eighth.
During Saturday’s season, “Tendons” successfully completed 76 victories during 2022 and 897 for life in the north oval in the final episode in the third and Lamplighter Jack in the eighth.
On Sunday, he performed brilliantly by winning the sixth competition on Double Tough Tiger.
Two Classics in Philadelphia
Julian jockey Michelle Sánchez won two Classics last Saturday during a select afternoon at Parks Racing, Philadelphia, where Taiba won the Pennsylvania Derby, held as the day’s central test.
Julia’s jockey rode the Gordian Knot in the Prince Lucky Stakes with a prize of $200,000, and at the end of the afternoon she led Land and Sea See to victory in the Alphabet Soup Handicap with a prize of $200,000.
Mychel reached 62 photos in the year and was six laurels away from 1,000 wins with a total of 994 for life in the North.
Amisel Jaramillo and Lionel Reyes Ramos also won.
