For those of us who live relatively close to the mountains, thunder and lightning are very common during the winter, even those with thunder and lightning. But what’s unusual is seeing one of these fall nearby and living to tell about it. Something happened to a PC gamer, who said his computer was struck by lightning through the Ethernet cable, leaving the equipment unusable.

This impressive story was shared by the user himself on Reddit, in a post aptly named: “My PC was struck by lightning through the Ethernet cable.” According to him, while the strong electrical storm was hitting the area where he lives, due to the previous experience and caution, they disconnected some electronic devices inside his house. One of them was his PC, where he disconnected all the power cables but did not remove the Ethernet cable, which turned out to be a mistake.

You can read: He opened the PC’s power supply to remove the plastic that was causing the scary noise, not realizing that he might have been electrocuted.

In his post telling what happened, the player said: “I unplugged everything except my modem. Then I heard an explosion and my whole house was covered in smoke. When things calmed down, the all I saw was the burned modem and, when I looked at the PC, everything seemed fine.” But unfortunately, his first impression was wrong, because as he said, after lightning struck them and “the electricity came back, 2 days later, I realized that the Ethernet cable destroyed my PC,” thus explaining that the electric shock travels through your computer’s network cable.

“Even the speakers connected to the PC caught fire. Fortunately, the power supply is still working,” he said.

Even the electric shock that came to his room could have killed him, because he had just passed the fuse box to his bed, and immediately the box exploded causing damage to the surroundings. This is why he said: “If I had been there at that time, I would not have shared this story. Luckily, we are all safe.”
