Lions strengthen Scotland for Australia Test

EDINBURG, Scotland (NWN) – All seven of its available British and Irish Lions were picked by Scotland to face Australia in a rugby Test at Murrayfield on Sunday.

Stuart Hogg returned as captain and was joined by teammates Ali Price, Finn Russell, Chris Harris and Duhan van der Merwe.

At the forward, flanker Hamish Watson and prop Zander Fegerson continue with the side that beat Tonga 60-14 last weekend.

It’s the same opening XV that completed the Six Nations beating France in Paris in March, plus loosehead prop Pierre Schuman earning a second hat after Rory Sutherland pulled out a side strain, likely all autumn tests.

Nine of the XV met Tonga, which was played outside the Test window and was restricted to local players.

After giving eight players their Scottish debut against Tonga, coach Gregor Townsend is giving two more chances from reserve; Sales hooker Evan Ashman and bath back-rover Josh Bayliss.

“While the win against Tonga has revealed many positives, we face a very different opponent in Australia,” Townsend said.

This is a great opportunity to test yourself against a team that is in form.
