NetherRealm Studios kept us waiting for a long time, but the studio has finally officially revealed Mortal Kombat 1, the next installment in the popular and bloody fighting franchise. The game’s first trailer is completely cinematic, but it tells us a lot about its story, and more importantly, it confirms its release date.
Mortal Kombat 1 is both a continuation of the previous game and a reboot of the saga, as was the case with Mortal Kombat 9 in 2011: Liu Kang replaces Raiden as Earth’s protector god, and in the trailer he shares a message of unity. Does and hopefully, soon the blood-thirsty Shang Tsung tries to break this peace, which brings us to what is most beloved among Mortal Kombat fans: blood, brutality and excessive amounts of gore.
Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Kitana, Mileena, and Shang Tsung himself along with Liu Kang were confirmed as part of the initial cast for Mortal Kombat 1 (the latter a pre-order exclusive) when Netherrealm Studios revealed was more likely. gives us the first glimpse of the official gameplay of the game, as they have done in previous deliveries.
Within the official FAQ, we can get even more details about the game: Raiden, Kung Lao, and Johnny Cage will also be in the game, and the Famous Combat Pack has already been confirmed, which includes DLC and Johnny Cage. Several additional characters will be involved. In the Cage-inspired skin Jean-Claude Van Damme, which will be available on the game’s launch day.
Mortal Kombat confirms its closed beta for August 1st
Mortal Kombat 1 will arrive on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PC and Nintendo Switch on September 19th, a date that in itself is already a tremendous surprise for being so close to the game’s first announcement, But if that’s not even short enough to wait for you, a closed beta has also been confirmed that we’ll enjoy in August, although that test will only be available to Xbox and PlayStation players.
Mortal Kombat 1 pre-sales will be available starting tomorrow, May 19th, and it certainly won’t take long to see more details about the game; Summer Game Fest is just around the corner, and with the launch so close, Warner Bros. won’t have the luxury of making us wait long between each new release of titles coming out to compete with Street Fighter 6 and Tekken 8.
