Washington state health officials reported the first omicron status in Whatcom County on Friday, making it the fourth district to report at least one case of the state’s newest COVID-19 variant.

While much is unknown about the option, health officials said the option would spread more easily than previous COVID options, according to the CDC.

The emergence of the new option has intensified conversations about booster doses. On Friday, the Pentagon said it was in “active discussions” to force reinforcements for the military.

At the same time, about 40,000 U.S. military personnel, or 3 percent of all troops, refused to be vaccinated on Wednesday, just days before the deadline.
