Liverpool’s Alexander-Arnold recovers from hamstring injury

LIVERPOOL, England ( Associated Press) — Liverpool right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold has made a quick recovery from a hamstring injury and could play against Watford on Saturday.

The England international’s return is a big boost for Liverpool ahead of Tuesday’s Champions League quarterfinal match at Benfica and next Sunday’s Premier League clash with Manchester City.

But first is the relegation-threatening Watford at Anfield.

“It will be difficult tomorrow but it is possible,” Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp said on Friday.

Alexander-Arnold, 23, was originally speculated to have missed at least two weeks, which raised concerns about his availability for the April 10 game at City. Liverpool are one point behind league-leader City.

Alexander-Arnold’s injury left him out of England’s squad for two friendly matches, but was expected to attend the full team’s training in Liverpool on Friday.

“Physically he should be fine. Now I have to decide on the rhythm and things like that.”

The German coach also said that top scorer Mohamed Salah will recover from Egypt’s failure to qualify for the World Cup. Egypt lost to Senegal on penalties on Tuesday when Sadio Mane converted the winner.

“I’m obviously really happy for Sadio that he could make it and I’m obviously very disappointed and feeling it,” Klopp said. “I don’t think the situation was particularly good with penalties and lasers. It’s also clear. So, I feel for him, but I’m also happy for Sadio. He’s football.

“Senegal is probably the best team in Africa right now,” he said. “Egypt did really well. I’m not sure they can see it exactly that way, but my point of view is that they should.”
