Lizzo shuts down internet rumors on ‘SNL’: ‘I don’t know where it started’

Despite her hit single “Rumors,” “Saturday Night Live” host and musical guest Lizzo had a message for viewers this weekend: All the rumors about her personal life were swirling. are not Truth.

“I want to call attention to some rumours,” the singer and rapper said during their opening monologue. “I’ve heard a lot of gossip online that I’m dating every little white guy in Hollywood. They think I’m gathering One Direction members like the Infinity Stones.”

“I even heard a rumor that I’m pregnant with Chris Evans’ baby,” she said. “I don’t know where that started. It could be TikTok, where I said, ‘I’m pregnant with Chris Evans’ baby.’ It’s called revealing!'”

Pulling double duty on this week’s installment of the sketch comedy series, the Grammy winner starred, sang, rapped, twerked, and played the flute. He also had some encouraging words for members of the audience, including his mother—who later helped introduce him to the show as a musical guest.

“When I got the call to host ‘SNL,’ I was so nervous, and I know it’s shocking, because I’m the one who said, ‘I just did a DNA test.’ That I’m 100%’ – you know the song,” she continued. “To be completely honest, I’m actually like 50% that band nerd B-, 10% boss B- and 40% flute-playing band nerds B-.”

“In every show, I say the same thing to my audience, and I would say to all of you too: I love you,” she said. “You’re beautiful, and you can do anything. I’m living proof of that. I used to live in my car, and now I’m here hosting ‘Saturday Night Live’.”

Here are some more highlights from Saturday’s show. (Warning: Some of the videos below contain profanity.)

Bowen Yang Wishes Viewers a Happy — and Weird — Easter

Cast member Bowen Yang leads the Easter-themed Cold Open with some help from Dr. Anthony Fauci (Kate McKinnon), Marjorie Taylor Green (Cecile Strong), New York Mayor Eric Adams (Chris Redd) as the only Easter Bunny . Elon Musk (Mickey Day), Britney Spears (Chloe Fineman), Jared Leto (Kyle Mooney) and Donald Trump (James Austin Johnson).

“Hello everyone! It’s really me, Easter Bunny,” said Yang in a sticky tone.

“Either that, or you’re at Coachella and the showroom is coming in. … It’s Easter — a.k.a. hot Halloween — and I may not be the most A-list holiday character, but I’m the weirdest: human- Shape is made without a backstory. Who is this?”

Lizzo shows off her fluting and jerking skills

During a musical sketch, cast member Mickey Day played a packed conductor of a symphony orchestra in need of a flute player. Lucky for her, famed flute player – and twerk-ist – Beverly Gaggs (Lizzo) was just around the corner.

Lizzo’s character told the pretentious conductor, “The truth is I can play the flute, if I’m jerking.”

“Two years ago, I could not play any instrument. Then one day last summer, the ice cream truck came over, and I heard that jingle. That beat made my body move in a way that made me feel powerful – like I could do anything, even play the flute. And the rest is history.”

A Studio Session with the Black Eyed Peas

In a throwback to 2008, “SNL” re-imagined how a recording studio session of the Black Eyed Peas hit “Boom Boom Pow”.

Yang, Strong, Red and Kenan Thompson starred in the sketch as members of the Black Eyed Peas—but it was Lizzo who stole the show as a music producer covering Fergie’s famous rap poem from the song.

Lizzo hits home with ‘About Demon Time’ and ‘Specials’

“Ladies and gentlemen, me!” Lizzo made the announcement before taking to the stage for an upbeat and colorful performance of her latest single, “About Damn Time.”

Later, she took things slow thanks to a heartfelt, powerful rendition of her self-love anthem “Special.”

“If nobody told you today, you’re special / If nobody’s convinced you, you’re special,” she belted out, rocking a hot-pink dress with a billowing train.

“Well, I’ll always tell you the same, you’re special / I’m so glad you’re still with us / Broken, but damn, you’re still perfect.”

Another “SNL” episode, another game show sketch hosted by Thompson—but this time it was the contestants who gave the program’s longtime “Mayor of Gametown” a run for their money.

“Okay, so they give you a little suit and some blue cards and now you’re the mayor of Gametown?” Lizzo said, playing a contestant challenging Thompson.

“I’m the new mayor, and the first thing I’m doing is putting us in a better hotel with an espresso machine.”
