- Holiday return traffic in Gotthard is worth noting: TCS reports a nine kilometer traffic jam in front of the northbound tunnel and loss of time of up to two hours.
- In front of Gotthard North Portal also the cars are retreating again – so far for about four kilometres.
- The sheet metal column on the south side had temporarily moved up to eleven kilometers on Saturday evening.
On Saturday evening, the police had to temporarily close the Gotthard Tunnel in both the directions due to a technical snag. Waiting times in the canton of Uri on the way south and in Ticino on the way north were up to two hours. TCS recommended the San Bernardino route as an alternative.
In addition to the usual traffic jams caused by southbound day-trippers, there was also a wave of return. In Aargau, the first Swiss canton, the school holidays end on a Monday. Schools will resume next week in the most populous German state of North Rhine-Westphalia.
trouble in the way
On days of increased traffic, many people use the cantonal road passing through the village of Wassen. This has angered the local people. Therefore, the municipality had been demanding for a long time that the exit of the motorway should be closed in the traffic jam.
In a pilot test, however, police are now testing blocking the entrance to the motorway. She argues with the enormity and complexity of congestion management. According to Thorsten Imhof, commander of the cantonal police in Uri, the aim is to prevent motorists from crossing the cantonal road in Amsteg, Erstfeld or Flühlen.
