Los Angeles FC Stadium changes its name from Bank of California to BMO Stadium

Los Angeles FC’s home stadium will be renamed from Bank of California Stadium to BMO Stadium.

LAFC announced Thursday a new naming rights deal for the five-year-old stadium, which was built by an expansion Major League Soccer club. The stadium is also home to Angel City FC of the NWSL.

BMO, also known as Bank of Montreal, is a Canadian financial firm that is moving aggressively into the United States with a proposed acquisition of California-based Bank of the West. BMO also has the naming rights to Toronto FC’s home arena, BMO Field.

The name change in Los Angeles has been underway since 2020, when Bank of California upheld its 15-year naming rights agreement first signed in 2016. The stadium continued to use its old name for the last two seasons and in media viewing. for a new sponsor.

LAFC won its first MLS Cup championship at the arena last fall, defeating Philadelphia on penalties to claim the title. LAFC also won two Supporters’ Shield titles during their five years at the stadium, including last year as the league’s best regular-season team.

BMO also announced a partnership agreement with Angel City.

According to the club, LAFC’s stadium has sold out for every MLS regular season and playoff game since it opened in 2018. The stadium has been widely praised for its style, facilities and the atmosphere created in large part by the raucous and most enthusiastic supporters, who stand in a section of the arena’s famous north end.

The stadium is in Exposition Park next to the 99-year-old Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, immediately south of downtown Los Angeles.
