BERLIN – Lufthansa is putting more flights for business travelers in September and October, the German airline’s chief executive told Reuters on Wednesday.
“We’re seeing very clearly now that business travelers are coming back,” said Carsten Spohr, adding that Lufthansa had increased domestic flight capacity by 30 percent in September and will increase it by another 15 percent in October.
Lufthansa will resume the hourly frequency of flights between Frankfurt and Hamburg and Frankfurt and Berlin in the morning and evening hours, which are popular among business travellers.
“In Europe, we are already re-flying 60 percent of our schedule,” Spore said.
Business travel only seems to be slowly returning after collapsing during the coronavirus pandemic as many companies slash their travel budgets and get into the habit of holding online meetings.
Speaking on the sidelines of a conference in Berlin, Spohr said the air cargo business was booming.
“In air freight, the boom has also increased since the end of the summer holidays, due to major unprecedented disruptions in global supply chains,” he said.
