-What did you know about the Pembrokeshire murders before working on the series?
– I didn’t know the story. I was in Montreal on a shoot as soon as I started reading (the script), I went straight to Google to check because I couldn’t believe it was a true story. This is a powerful story. It’s a success story, because it shows you how people come together. When there is truth, as deep as it is, when people have passion and want to find the truth, they will.

– What did you like the most about Nick Stevens’ screenplay?
-Nick’s script is detailed and complex, but they let each character’s emotion flow, which is a daunting task when it comes to technical police dialogue. I loved working with Nick because his collaborative and open approach was an enjoyable process for me as an actor.

– Why do you think this story attracts the public?
When a true story comes to life, it gives a sense of authenticity. Simultaneously, we get a chance to show off the skill, professionalism and thorough process that the team goes through, painstakingly sifting through the evidence to find the smallest of hopes. It is the story of a man’s hunch and a team’s belief in him, the belief that they will find the killer. A true story of success against darkness and evil.

Being from Wales, was it important to record there with a Welsh cast and crew?
-Actually, this is the first time I’ve worked on a project in Wales, so for me it was very touching and also because it’s a Welsh story. I was able to visit some incredibly beautiful parts of Wales, which was special. It was a pleasure to visit the recording set and hear all these beautiful Welsh accents every day. I have missed her a lot. The cast is quite an eclectic bunch. I loved every moment of working with them all, and the team was fantastic.

– What was it like meeting Detective Steve Wilkins?
– I had the privilege of meeting the real Steve Wilkins; He is a man of honor and integrity. It is a great responsibility that one human being seeks the truth of another human being who has no voice anymore.

What’s the challenge of playing a real person instead of a fictional character?
When you play a real person, it’s a gift to be able to meet that person. The fact that it’s still around is a wonderful thing. Steve had an incredibly interesting career and was involved in some very interesting and serious crimes throughout his career. He has good energy. There’s a fire inside Steve Wilkins.

Do you have any responsibility to make a drama based on a true story?
There is certainly a sense of responsibility to be a voice for these people who have lost their lives in such a tragic way. I hope we have done justice to them.

The friendship of detective Steve Wilkins and journalist Jonathan Hill was very important to the investigation…
-When Steve meets Jonathan Hill for the first time, they immediately start off on the wrong foot. But these two individuals are incredibly professional human beings, so they try to be respectful and cordial with each other. Then they basically come to an agreement on how they’re going to handle the information and how they’re going to provide it, not only to the press and the public, but to the killer as well. This is the seed we now know was a very strong, fruitful, productive and honest relationship between these two people from very different sides of the road.
