Actor R Madhavan says getting into the debate of north-south cinema is pointless as things are constantly changing in the film industry and one cannot predict how people will get a film. Only three Hindi films in 2022- Gangubai Kathiawadi, The Kashmir Files And Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 – emerged as a commercial hit while SS Rajamouli’s Telugu epic RRRKannada Action KGF Chapter 2 and allu arjun telugu movie Pushpa Has set new records at the box office in North India.
At a press conference to promote his first directorial venture Rocketry: The Nambi EffectMadhavan said it is useless to analyze why south films are doing good business in the Hindi-speaking market.
“It is useless to analyze (these things) because if you think there is one rule (to be successful), you can also lose everything because every day is a changing landscape. I hope for more years to come.” Other films will do well in days. And another pattern will set in. I don’t think we can predict how the audience will react,” the 52-year-old actor said.
Madhavan believes that the popularity of South films does not mean that Hindi is not doing well at the box office.
,bahubali one and two, RRR, KGF one and two more Pushpa These are the ones who have earned more than Hindi films because they have a fan following all over India and they are made in a big way.
“However, that doesn’t mean that Hindi films haven’t worked. Gangubai Kathiawadi To k files To Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 Has been a big hit too,” he said.
The actor believes that the coronavirus pandemic has changed the way audiences watch cinema.
“I believe in this COVID era, there has been a change in the mindset of the audience. After COVID, the patience and tolerance of the people has reduced. Like the script, there is no pacing and hence it is not working. It is,” Madhavan said.
The success of South films can also be credited to the commitment and hard work of actors like NTR Jr., Ram Charan, Allu Arjun. RRR And Pushparespectively, he said.
“The actors have worked very hard. Like in RRR, they all worked hard or in ‘Pushpa’ where Allu Arjun, who is a great actor, kept it up and acted and danced like his character. That commitment where an actor works on a film not only for three months or so, but something that people love to watch.” Madhavan, known for films like Rehnaa Hai Tere Dil Mein, 3 Idiots, Tanu Weds Manu And Vikram VedhaSaid he is proud and satisfied with his first film Rocketry: The Nambi Effect as a director.
He wrote, produced and starred in rocketryA biopic on Nambi Narayanan, a former Indian Space Research Organization scientist and aerospace engineer who was falsely accused of espionage.
“I started the film in late 2016 and it will release in 2022. It has taken six years. Not just my role but I am satisfied with the way the film has turned out compared to the script we have written. So, this is as close to the script as possible. That’s our win.
He said, “I am proud that I have made a film that I wanted to make, even though it took six years to make. I am very proud to present the story of Nambi Narayanan.”
Madhavan, which is scheduled to release on July 1 in cinemas across the world, said the film will have a substantial release in terms of screen count.
Rocketry: The Nambi Effect The film was shot simultaneously in Hindi, Tamil and English and will be dubbed in Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada languages.
