Middleton also finished fifth in the 200 mixed relay, while Molly Hug, sophomore Caitlin Haag and senior Amanda George finished sixth to eighth in the 500 freestyle race won by Brookfield East junior Reese Tiltmann.
“It was great,” said Middleton freshman coach RJ Leiferman. “I’m really happy with the way they did it. We are right where we were sown. Many swimmers have climbed and my divers have done well. … Everyone did a great job last week (in the qualifiers) and we hoped to stay where we were last week or do a little better and everyone did it. “
Madison West (139) finished seventh, while Madison Memorial, assisted by freshman Gillian Holler, who finished sixth in the 50 freestyle, finished eighth with 116.50.
“This is where we were sown,” said Madison West coach Amanda Elmaker. “I think our relays are great. Bella Graniecke did amazing. “
The regents team of Graniecke, juniors Zeynep Yapici, sophomore Hanna Mello and junior Ellen Osthelder took third place in the 200th free relay (1: 35.60).
Elmaker said she believed the camaraderie this season helped build a cohesive relay.
“They all had to train on their own and figure out how they were going to do it last year,” Elmaker said. “They clearly lacked their team and school experience, and I think that showed our relays and how strong our relays were.”
