The board will also vote on adding in a form that members of staff sponsoring the trips are required to fill out and sign. Those additions include an agreement to obtain a mobile device from the district for all communications on the go and to immediately report issues involving student safety or trauma via phone call or email to a building principal or district administration. .
A hotel room key addendum is a change to the form that staff members are required to fill out. The new requirement states that students must obtain room keys directly from the establishment, or that a second person, such as an authorized custodian or another student, oversees the distribution of keys to students from a staff member.
Board member Chris Carusi said, “I think what the community wants is policy that shows that we have responded to the problems we’ve had in the past.”
The policy, which is still being revised, is not yet set for a full school board vote.
