A man suffered leg injuries after plunging from a roof while trying to escape police officers. Horrified residents watched events unfold on Thursday as North Wales Police (NWP) mounted a drugs raid in the center of Rhyl.
Two male suspects had tried to flee an address on Kinmel Street when officers entered the building, North Wales Live reports. One was later arrested on suspicion of drug offenses.
Officers brought in a fire service cherry picker to reach the roof while colleagues used bolt cutters to enter a side gate. Other officers stood guard at the rear of the premises. An air ambulance landed on playing fields at nearby Ffordd Las after one of the suspects fell from the roof. The helicopter was not needed as the man was taken to Ysbyty Glan Clwyd Hospital in an emergency ambulance.

The second man was later led away after police searched the building. Officers stayed at the scene to secure the premises. A number of witnesses reported seeing the man fall from the roof. One resident, who lives nearby described how the police operation quickly escalated. “I was walking to work at around 10am this morning and there was a police car on the corner,” she said. “Then, all of a sudden, there were more and more, I’ve never seen so many.
“I saw one man on top of the old Accent Insurance building. I heard someone had fallen off and the air ambulance came. The one I saw didn’t come down so the fire engine came with the crane. When he came down, he was taken away by the police.”
The Welsh Ambulance Service said it was called to Kinmel Street at 12.06pm. It sent an emergency ambulance to the scene, where the crew was supported by Emergency Medical Retrieval and Transfer Service colleagues in a Wales Air Ambulance. “One person was taken by road to Ysbyty Glan Clwyd, Bodelwyddan,” said a spokesperson.
North Wales Police said it had executed a drugs warrant at the address. A spokesperson said: “Upon officers entering the building, two male suspects attempted to flee the location via the roof. One man sustained leg injuries after falling from the roof whilst trying to evade officers. Ambulance crews attended the scene and later transferred the man to hospital.
“A search for the second suspect was then successfully undertaken and the male was arrested on suspicion of drug offenses. Officers have remained at the scene to secure the building.” To get the latest news from across Wales, subscribe to our newsletters here.
