Flor Liliana Estrada Martinez, head of Health Jurisdiction No. 1 of the state government’s health secretariat, said that after the coronavirus hit the world, many patients felt they were suffering from other diseases, especially diabetes and high blood pressure.
When patients succumbed to Covid-19, it was found in medical institutions that they also had diabetes and high blood pressure, which they were unaware of.
“Covid-19 actually made many more people sick, in many cases the coronavirus hit them, it caused the disease and in other cases they already had it but didn’t know it.”
Above all, it was adults in the region between the ages of 40 and 50 who recognized that they were going through the disease. It was diabetes, many times they didn’t even know they were sick, even as they sought care, they found out they had the disease”.
The expert mentioned that especially when they were admitted to the hospital, when they underwent various medical tests including blood tests, they were identified as diabetic and hypertensive patients.
Health Jurisdiction No. 1 covers the medical care of the two municipalities that are basically the most important demographically, the capital city of Potosí and Soledad de Graciano Sánchez.
“We are starting the year, all health centers are open and vaccination campaigns are also taking care of the first-level conditions.”
He did not know how to specify how many people currently have diabetes and high blood pressure in these municipalities, but he says the data is similar to that available nationally, where the last national report comes from 2020 and Says that in San Luis Potosí there is a registry of more than 197 thousand diabetics.
It is pertinent to add that diabetes is a chronic disease that affects the way the body converts food into energy.
