Young opener Prithvi Shaw was once again ignored as the Indian squad for the two T20 Internationals against Ireland was announced. Shaw has played just one T20I for India, despite impressing with his ability to make quick starts with the bat in the Indian Premier League, which came in Sri Lanka last year, when he was dismissed for a golden duck. While Shaw was always touted as a player of great potential for India, players like Ishan Kishan and Ruturaj Gaikwad surpassed him in the pecking order.
Former India selector Saba Karim opened up about why Shaw is being ignored by the selectors during a press conference.
“There are many young openers ahead of Prithvi Shaw right now and that’s why he is down the order,” Saba Karim said in response to a query from NDTV.
“But that doesn’t mean he can’t come back early. He has an amazing repertoire of shots. He’s done so well for DC over the past two seasons, one hopes he’ll be more consistent and more Will score runs. Board in which he is capable,” he said.
Apart from scoring more runs consistently, Saba Karim said that Prithvi Shaw should focus on his fitness.
“He also needs to work hard on his fitness so that he can compete with the other openers in the team,” he added.

The former India wicketkeeper concluded, “I think he just needs to spend his time and pile on the runs, that’s all. And I think such youngsters have enough time to make a comeback in the national team.”
The two T20 matches are scheduled to be played on June 26 and 28 and will be telecast live on Sony Ten Network in India.
