Marilyn Monroe designer says letting Kim Kardashian wear iconic dress was a ‘big mistake’

Bob Mackie has a problem with Kim Kardashian wearing a classic Marilyn Monroe outfit.

After wearing Monroe’s gown on Kardashian’s Met Gala red carpet earlier this month, the internet had mixed reactions.

The dress was originally worn by Monroe when she sang a scintillating rendition of the song “Happy Birthday” to then-President John F. Kennedy for his 45th birthday.

Mackie, the costume designer who sketched Monroe’s iconic outfit a few months before she died, knocks the reality TV star down to re-wear this dazzling outfit, according to Entertainment Weekly. informed of,

“I thought it was a big mistake,” Mackie told the outlet in a story published Monday on the new series “Follow the Thread,” in which he appears.

In Mackie’s opinion, no one except the “goddess” should have ever worn the dress.

,[Marilyn] There was a goddess. A mad goddess, but a goddess. She was just wonderful. There is no such photo. And it was done for him. It was made for him,” he said. “No one else should be seen in that dress.”

The heavy criticism the “The Kardashians” star received wasn’t the only thing about sporting the outfit.

Kardashian said she had to lose 16 pounds in three weeks to squeeze in the garment because it wouldn’t zip over her frame completely.

“I would wear a sauna suit twice a day, run on the treadmill, completely cut out all sugar and all carbs, and eat only the cleanest vegetables and proteins.” told vogue on the red carpet. “I didn’t starve myself, but I was very strict.”

Despite her diet and exercise, the dress only partially flared up allowing her to rock a white, vintage fur coat that draped over the exposed zip.

When Kardashian left her hotel on the day of the event, she wore just a fitting gown and changed into a dress in a small room at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.

After the initial big performance on the red carpet, she changed into a replica dress to protect the original outfit.

Even with the added measures of preserving the legacy of Kardashian’s dress and blonde bombshell, Mackie wasn’t the only one to condemn her tribute.
