Tata Motors is planning to bring Electric Vehicle in many segments for its customers. The company has stated that it is working on a plan to introduce EV models with different sizes and features to meet the needs of customers in a variety of segments. Tata Motors, currently at the forefront of the passenger vehicle segment, is working on developing products based on its three different platforms to cater to the needs of different types of customers.

Shailesh Chandra, Managing Director, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles, said that the company is operating on a three-level plan in the electric vehicle segment. While the Nexon EV and Tigor EV are for one type of customer, the recently introduced Curve Concept car will be for another type of customer. While the EVs built on the Avinya platform coming in 2025 will be for different types of customers.

Chandra said, “Each of these products will have its own uniqueness. We are going to cater to all types of customer segments and their needs based on different price level, body style, features and experience. ”He hoped that each of these vehicles would get good sales. Asked whether the introduction of new generation electric vehicles would end the existence of early EV vehicles, Chandra said that all the three generation vehicles would remain together.

The company has recently introduced its brand new electric vehicle architecture ‘Avinya’. The company plans to launch EVs based on this framework from 2025. The company’s new electric models will come with a range of 500 kilometers and more. They will also feature state-of-the-art technology, software and artificial intelligence. Next generation products like Nexon EV and Tigor EV have a range of about 250 kilometers.

Chandra said that Tata Motors is deciding the strategy in the EV segment in line with the government policy. The government has set a target of increasing the total market share of electric vehicles to 30 per cent by the year 2030. He hopes that by the end of the current financial year, EV Business will reach double digits in the total sales of Tata Motors. It is also expected to increase to 20-25 per cent in the next five years.
