This is Marvel’s justification for Scarlet Witch’s big change in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
The development of the character Wanda Maximoff, played by Elizabeth Olsen, has been a topic of conversation among Marvel fans since her debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, recent developments in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022) have left many fans confused and, in some cases, dissatisfied. Now one of the film’s producers has provided a compelling justification for Scarlet Witch’s change of course.
In WandaVision, fans saw Wanda Maximoff use her chaos magic to transform the town of Westview into a reality that mirrored the television sitcoms of her childhood. This seemingly harmless act was driven by her desire to live a happy life with Vision and her children, even though her family turned out to be an illusory creation.
But then he went down a dark path.
We saw her studying the Darkhold and unleashing chaos across the multiverse in a desperate attempt to reunite with her sons Billy and Tommy. This led to her facing and ultimately defeating Earth-838’s Illuminati.
Richie Palmer, one of Marvel’s producers, laid out a fascinating rationale for this twist in the Scarlet Witch’s story in the book Art of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
“WandaVision has been a crazy ride for this character. Of course, to see where it goes after that, it could be a darker place. “After this show, I may no longer be the happiest person in the world, and we see the most powerful being in the universe address the question of happiness.”
“It’s sort of the theme of our film. Doctor Strange is about the same thing: you saved the world. They sacrificed themselves for the greater good. But are you happy? That’s really something all of our characters have to deal with, and it’s a question that takes them to crazy places. Wanda sees America as an opportunity to find happiness in the Marvel Multiverse. And she’s the Scarlet Witch, so it’ll be hard to stop her from getting what she wants.”
“At the end of the day, we’re all comic book fans. And in the Marvel comics, Scarlet Witch doesn’t always do things that are good for everyone around her, for various reasons.
“She kills people in the comics. Rewrite reality to your liking. And we’ve always said that this character is in our universe; We should really appreciate what he does in the comics because we think it will be fun. “We think people want to see it.” Richie Palmer concluded.
