Mascherano prepares team to play in last 16 against Nigeria

The squad’s first practice with full knowledge of the opponent will take place behind closed doors at 3:30pm today, and the coaching staff will already be testing forms that will play from 6:00pm on Wednesday. San Juan del Bicentenario Stadium, in San Juan Province.

After a loss with the substitute team against New Zealand (5–0) to close Group A with a perfect score (something only the United States could do), Mascherano decided that he would play the first two Uzbekistan and Guatemala will return depending on the matches.

Goalkeeper Federico Gomes will be Gerth and there is practically no doubt in defense as captain Agustin Guy will return on the right, Valentin Barco on the left and central defenders Lautaro Di Lolo and Valentin Gomez.

Play

An incident recorded in the city of Rosario confirmed the death of the fourth brother of the Argentine juniors footballer.

The midfield is the area where doubts arise as the starters in the first two matches were Mateo Tanlongo and Maximo Perron and little forward Valentin Carboni.

The quality of Federico Redondo and Luca Romero against New Zealand posed a problem for the coaching staff. Both have chances to go inside from the start against the Africans.

In attack, it will most likely start Brian Aguirre, who beats out Juan Gauto, strikers Alejo Veliz and Matias Sole.

Therefore, one possible formation would be with Gomes Garth; Guy, Di Lolo, Gomez and Barco; Tanlongo or Redondo and Perón; Aguirre, Carboni or Romero, Sole; and Veliz.

After today’s practice, the teams will reopen with a mixed zone for the media tomorrow.

The match against Nigeria, tickets for which are still available on the Deportivo portal, will be played on Wednesday at 6:00 pm at the San Juan del Bicentenario Stadium, which will hold around 28,000 spectators.

In previews, starting at 2:30 p.m., the public will be able to watch another Round of 16 match with the same ticket: Colombia-Slovakia.
