ABU DHABI, 31st October, 2022 (WAM) — The Women in Sustainability, Environment and Renewable Energy (YSER) platform has launched “I Am Wiser,” a global campaign to increase support for women who are in efforts are at the forefront. Encouraging world leaders to promote initiatives to combat climate change and build a more inclusive and sustainable future.
The campaign urges policymakers, industry leaders and individuals to take the #IAmWiSER pledge to champion women as agents of sustainable change, in line with United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 5 and 7. United Nations, whose aim is “gender equality and achieving”. Empowering all women and girls” and “Ensuring access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all”.

Globally, women and girls bear the greatest impact of climate change, which exacerbates existing gender inequalities and poses unique threats to their livelihoods, health and security, according to UN Women.
The #IAmWiSER campaign is supported by five notable women who are pushing the sustainability agenda on the world stage today, including Maryam bint Mohamed Almaheri, Minister of Climate Change and the Environment; Ambassador Lana Nuseebeh, Permanent Representative of the United Arab Emirates to the United Nations; Damilola Ogunbiyi, CEO of Sustainable Energy for All (SEforALL); Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for SEforALL and Co-Chair of UN-Energy; Peggy Choi, founder and CEO of global knowledge-sharing platform Link; and Alexandra Palt, Executive Vice President of Corporate Responsibility at L’Oréal and Executive Vice President of the L’Oréal Foundation.
Commenting on the campaign, Palt said, “#IAmWiSER is about celebrating the achievements of women who have worked tirelessly to build a more sustainable future for their communities and our planet. It is also about motivating and empowering the U.S. to continue its strides. Because women are an extremely powerful engine of change and a key to social and ecological progress”.
Interested participants are invited to visit Masdar’s website to take the #IAmWiser pledge: “I am committed to championing women as agents of sustainable change.” Signers will then be asked to make their pledge public and encourage others to take it through an auto-generated link to share on social media.
At the 27th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCC COP27) to be held in Egypt next November, WiSER will receive and invite delegates to its stand at the UAE Pavilion. #IAmWiser to take the pledge.
