Fully vaccinated Massachusetts residents must register by Thursday if they want to redeem the first five $1 million in cash prizes or college scholarships at the state’s VaxMillions giveaway.
Anyone who lives in Massachusetts and has a Disease Control and Prevention vaccination card that proves they are fully vaccinated against the coronavirus can enter to win the first drawing, according to the state. The registration deadline is Thursday, July 22 at 11:59 pm.
Two winners will be selected in each of the five weekly drawings to be held until August. One winner aged 18 or older will win $1 million and another winner aged 12-17 will win a $300,000 college scholarship.
The first winners will be announced on July 29.
Eligible residents will be able to enter the gift at VaxMillionsGiveaway.com or by calling 211. Residents who have not yet been fully vaccinated can still register for future portraits after receiving their shots.
The Massachusetts lottery program is modeled after programs launched in Ohio and California to encourage vaccination against the coronavirus.
The rewards will be paid in the form of federal aid sent to Massachusetts in the US rescue plan, Gov. Charlie Baker said.
