October 2 (WNN) — Matt has climbed to the number 2 spot in Amodio’s Danger! Live the game continuously.
Amodio, Yale Ph.D. student studying computer science won his 33rd consecutive game, surpassing the 32-game winning streak of a professional sports gambler, James Holzhauer. who had earned the No. 2 spot two years ago.
“Tomorrow on #Jeopardy I have a chance to remind everyone how much @James Holzhauer really is better than me in every way,” amodio tweeted on Thursday. “It would be an honor to be unfavorably compared to someone I admire so much!”
1 winning streak is still held by Ken Jennings, who currently shares hosting duties with actress Mayim Bialik and won $2.52 million on a 74-game winning streak.
Although Holzauer won fewer games, he won more money in his streak than Amodio.
Holzhauer won $2.46 million in 32 games, while Amodio earned $1.27 million on his 33 game streak.
The professional sports gambler came close to beating a record amount of $2.52 million, with Jennings winning his 74th consecutive win, but was defeated by librarian Emma Boecher during her 33rd game.
Andy Saunders, who runs the website The Jopardy! Fan told The New York Times that Amodio and Holzauer have a similar approach in the first round of the game, as they both start with the $1,000 clue and then look for the Daily Double. However, they fall apart in the second round where Holzauer will bet a large sum of money on the daily double clue.
“Where James might bet $13,000 or $14,000, Matt is betting on $5,000 or $6,000,” Saunders told The Times. “And that’s a huge difference in their scores.”
The game show has struggled to find a replacement for Alex Trebek, who died of pancreatic cancer in November at the age of 80.
Mike Richards, the show’s former executive producer, was announced as the new permanent host, but stepped down in August after controversy over his previous comments. By the end of the month, Richards had exited the show as executive producer.
Bialik and Jennings will host the game show for the rest of the year.
