So you think you can understand why Matthew Morrison is looking for a new job?
The “Glee” alum recently joined Stephen “Twitch” Boss and JoJo Siwa on Fox’s reality dance competition series “So You Think You Dance” as a judge for the recently launched 17th season.
But just a week after the premiere, the Tony-nominated Broadway star is making two moves toward an exit after violating “competition production protocol.”
“It was an incredible honor for me to have the opportunity to be a judge on ‘So You Think You Can Dance’,” Morrison said in a statement Friday. “Therefore, I am deeply sorry to inform you that I will be leaving the show. After filming the audition rounds for the show and completing the selection of 12 finalists, I did not follow the competition’s production protocol, causing me to miss the competition.” prevented from being able to judge objectively.”
He continued, “I can’t apologize enough to everyone involved and I’ll be watching with you all to see what I know will be one of the best seasons yet.”
The nature of Morrison’s protocol breach has yet to be disclosed, but an unnamed source told Us Weekly, which first reported the news, that the issue was a “minor breach.”
The actor will still continue to appear in four upcoming episodes until mid-June, as preparations are made for the opening round of the competition.
Morrison’s replacement is expected to be announced in the coming weeks. A representative for Fox said that the network will “soon announce a new judge for the series for the next wave of competition beginning June 15, with the top 12 performing for America’s vote,” per Us Weekly.
Morrison was tapped as a new “So You Think You Dance” judge in April after the network chose to overhaul the series after a two-year COVID-related hiatus. The actor was brought in to replace the long-running show’s original judges Nigel Lithgow and Mary Murphy, who were asked not to return. Cat Deeley, however, remains as the host of the show.
Upon his casting announcement, Morrison said he was “thrilled to go back to my dancing roots.”
