Mayor Eric Adams completed one year in office on New Year’s Day.
After the ball dropped in Times Square just after midnight last year, Adams was publicly sworn in, officially becoming the city’s 110th mayor.
During his campaign, Adams portrayed himself as a mayor who identified with the city’s working-class families.
Crime being one of his main themes, he pledged to reduce the city’s crime rate and remove guns from the streets.
A year later, crime remains a problem, although the mayor says there are some positive signs.
A few days ago the mayor posted a message on social networks listing some of the achievements of his government in his opinion.
“A strong economy.
“Safer streets and subways.
“More affordable housing.
“I support working families.
“A great education for our kids.
“When I took office a year ago, I promised to #GetStuffDone in these areas. I’m proud to report that we’ve done just that,” the mayor said in the message.

Adams recently courted controversy with a new plan to remove mentally ill people from city streets even if they are not a danger to others.
Because of the work we have done and will continue to do, New York City remains the safest major city in America.
