McVay: Rams still interested in Beckham

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. ( Associated Press) — The Los Angeles Rams haven’t ruled out the prospect of re-signing Odell Beckham Jr., even if the injured wide receiver hasn’t been impressed by the club’s initial efforts.

Rams head coach Sean McVay on Wednesday confidently answered questions about Twitter messages sent by Beckham about starting talks with Los Angeles. Beckham made it clear that he thinks the Rams have little to offer for the star receiver, who reinvigorated the team’s offense after being interrupted last season.

“I love Odell,” McVay said. “We are in constant talks. I think he knows for sure, I don’t think this will be the last (offer) he will get from us. I am not familiar with that proposal. He knows how we feel about him. We still have some time, but I love Odell.”

Beckham played a key role in the Rams championship after being forced out of Cleveland last season. He made 27 receptions with five touchdowns during the regular season and added 21 more catches for 288 yards and two touchdowns in the post season.

He even got the Rams’ first Super Bowl touchdown with a 17-yard catch from Matthew Stafford. However, Beckham broke his knee ligaments for the second time after 16 months in the big game.

Beckham is not expected to play until November this season at the earliest, and many fans want him to agree to a long-term deal with the Rams to end his rehab before returning to the field when he recovers.

But no deal has been signed, and Beckham hinted when he took to Twitter on Wednesday in a thread about someone seeing the wide receiver at Buffalo Airport.

“LA knows where I wanted to be,” Beckham wrote. “But they didn’t offer me… Nothing! So what do people want from me? I definitely know what I’m worth and this offer doesn’t reflect that. So it’s hard to say whether I’ll go back.” Although I think I have finally found this home.”

The Rams still have a locker reserved for Beckham at their training facility, which contains his name tag and props. He joined the team at the championship pennant unveiling last month at Sophie Stadium, carrying the Lombardi Trophy during the ceremony.

Even the Beckhams came to McVay’s wedding in early summer, so they’re clearly on good terms. Beckham just wants to see those sentiments reflected in a contract offer he thinks is appropriate.
