In an interview with political leader Angel Medina Scoop, He says that, despite the sanctions, a clear redemocratic process has not been initiated in Venezuela and therefore, they have not worked.
“If you look at it on the receiving end of sanctions, it tells you: It hasn’t worked because I’m living here, I’m still alive, but it’s affecting Venezuela and the economy (.. .) and this is the structure of its discourse”, comment.
Political scientists also describe that sanctions are diplomatic and economic mechanisms used to get less powerful countries to change their position “or do little to punish them”.
However, it seems that “it limits the ability of governments, but it doesn’t make governments that are at a democratic deficit, I’m going to change because I have restrictions.”
He points out that, clearly, sanctions against Venezuela have affected the economy, because they represent borders for commercial exchange and “we put them on the issue of oil.”
“But the problem is, what are we actually doing to change the situation we are in and try to modify the restrictions that are already in place? And I think Maduro is doing practically nothing,” Medina says.
He insisted that the only way to end the sanctions is through a redemocratic process in the country, but that is not happening.
“It’s like a dog biting its tail: I don’t change and the other one doesn’t change and that’s what we are experiencing and all the citizens of the country are suffering in the end”, he said.
Also, remember that countries that have condemned sanctions “also approved.” He noted that others condemn him for ideological reasons “but understand that the system may at some point collapse on him.”
Without ignoring the fact that he also understands that they limit commercial exchanges and that “if I had an interest in Venezuela, I would also condemn the sanctions.”
