In the mid-2000s, Candice Michelle was a top figure in the women’s division and a highly respected champion. He gained much admiration in the company of Clodius, and his favor was well deserved. While many people loved her, Melina doesn’t seem to be one of them. In fact, Melina refused to leave the WWE Women’s Sponsorship of Candice Michelle.
On the other hand, Melina led the way in the women’s division in the mid-2000s, while the era of Lita and Trish Stratus was coming to an end. Alongside talented performers like Michelle McCool, Beth Phoenix, and Mickie James, Melina helped lead the division at a time when female fighters did not have the same opportunities today.
While speaking with WrestlingNews.co, Candice Michelle talks about her time with Melina, where Michelle revealed that Melina didn’t want to give up the WWE Women’s Championship to her.
According to Candice Michelle, Melina refused to give up the title to her during the fight. Candice came from Hollywood and understood the entertainment industry, while Melina felt she was struggling in the field and had to work harder. This created tension between the two, but also pushed Candice to become better. She didn’t know what to expect from her peers when Melina didn’t want to talk to her, and Candice was frustrated.
However, looking back on the experience, Candice realizes that Melina’s hostility helped her become a better fighter and ultimately a champion. Since then, Candice and Melina have become friends, and Candice thanked her for the challenge that pushed her to succeed.
“This didn’t want to happen. She didn’t want to drop the title on me. I came from Hollywood and I got it. She came from wrestling and wrestling, and doing independent shows, and for her she put more work in her mind than I did. But she didn’t see the work that I did, so Hollywood would leave Wisconsin and I did auditions every day. It’s the same, on the other hand, right? So I hate that it was so hard, but it pushed me cooler.”
I mean, there were times where we were going into that match, I really didn’t know if we were going to shoot a match or if we were going to have a draw. Like I didn’t know what we were going to do, and I didn’t practice wrestling, so I was like, I don’t know, let’s go out and fight. I just know that I’m going. I have a chance to get out, so we’ll see what happens.
We went out and put on a great show. The next one will come. I would say: What are we going to do? It was like he didn’t even talk to me and I was so frustrated. As I am, I want to give my all and be my best, and I can’t work with this girl. What I just learned is that hatred made me fear at the time that it pushed me. And years later, I shook his hand and now we’re friends, and I said, ‘You know what? I thank you for that I am not so sure I would have become a champion if you had been grateful to me then.’
Candice Michelle also recently explained why she is away from WWE television. Michelle even got close to getting into a real fight with Melina at the WWE house show.
