“Memo” Ochoa gets 8 goals with Salernitana, worst win of his career

(CNN Spanish) — Mexican goalkeeper Guillermo “Memo” Ochoa played in the humiliating defeat of his team, Salernitana, against Atalanta this Sunday, a match corresponding to Matchday 18 of the Italian Serie A.

In spectacular fashion, Salernitana lost 8–2 against Atalanta. According to a review of statistics carried out on the specialized Transfermarkt site, the result was Ochoa’s worst win in his entire career.

Prior to this, “Memo” Ochoa had two results as his biggest wins, both occurring in 2016:

  • The first was on June 19, when Ochoa defended the goal of the Mexican team in the Copa America Centenario. On that occasion, Mexico lost 7–0 against Chile.
  • and the second was on 15 October, when Memo wore a Granada shirt. At that time, his team lost 7–1 in the Spanish La Liga match against Atlético de Madrid.

This Sunday, Atalanta practically settled the match in the first half: at halftime, the team was already leading Salernitana 5–1. In the supplementary part, three more fell into Ochoa’s net and his club scored one more to decorate the scoreboard.

Despite the eight-goal loss, Ochoa made five crucial saves in the game, so the end result could have been more overwhelming against an Atlanta team that made 8 of its 13 shots on goal.

Against Atlanta, Memo Ochoa played his third game in Italy. In the last two, the Mexican goalkeeper had an outstanding performance.

Salernitana are 16th in Serie A, two places off the relegation places.
