Tribute to Menudo The band does not seek to imitate or duet the members of the musical phenomenon, all they want is those who create new concepts. Be a kid with talent, charisma and a desire to relive one of the most wonderful times in the music industry.
Backstage Management Company began virtual auditions in June of this year to select members of a musical group that would pay tribute to Menudo under the name Flashback & La Mendits Tribute Band. To date, a large number of teenagers have auditioned. Between the ages of 10 and 14, however, he did not live up to the time when he aspired to showcase his talent with the successes of Menudo.
“We’re not looking for duets or people who look alike. This is a group that wants to respect the core concept like other tribute groups. If we’re going to emphasize that it’s entertainment as much as possible Ho is as original, respecting the voices of the time and the music, dance and clothing arrangements. We are going to recreate the menudo show. They are not imitators, nor is it a talent show. It is a tribute band which deserves tribute, because he wrote a very important musical page”, confirmed Ricardo Arillaga, president of the Backstage Management Corporation in charge of the project.
Arillaga was one of thousands of fans of Menudo, a group founded in 1977. edgardo diazu And he had 33 members in his career. Studied in High School with Graduation Ricky Melendez, one of the members who spent the longest time at Menudo, and when musician Alex Rivera told him about the idea of forming a tribute band, he wondered, “Why wasn’t it there earlier?”
In the absence of a tribute concept, they began to shape the project, which they hope to formally submit after the spring of 2022.
The project seeks to select seven youth; Five of whom would form the group’s main line-up and the other two would join musical support as choristers and alternate in the event that one is unwell for personal, health or school reasons. Unlike Menudo, in which young people were the responsibility of the founder Díaz, in this group the parents must be part of the initiative and consent.
“This group is different, because unlike Menudo these boys are going to live with their parents. In this sense, we are innovative because we want to highlight the effort, enthusiasm and sacrifice of these young people together with their parents. The idea is to maintain the beauty of the original Menudo group. Certainly we are facing another generation which has its own peculiarities as we are in another time and in other fashion. We are going to keep the original concept, But they do with their personality and style”, explained project consultant Dr. Yaisenet Oyola Bonilla, as she was Menudo’s last young girl.
Doc vividly remembers his experience in the group as he had the opportunity to share in all the local productions, rehearsals and projects with the members that made up Robert, Rovi, Sergio, Ruben and Adrian.
How to audition?
The first round of auditions is virtual and instructions are given on the page www.menuditispr.com. There is a time limit to be a part of the audition On 30 October 2021.
Interested boys will have to record a video longer than 3 minutes and 30 seconds, singing the song as soloist and chorus girl. It should also include a section where the participant is shown performing the menudo dance routine. The parents of the participants will have to fill the registration form that appears on the website www.menuditispr.com.
A group of music industry professionals first forms the jury panel for the virtual audition and then after the first selection the boys will be called individually. There is no limit to attend the auditions as what the organizers want is a high participation. Face-to-face auditions will be individual to avoid the spread of COVID-19.
Once the group is formed, which will consist of a band of live musicians, the plan is to start with local performances and then overseas.
Both professionals stressed that the boys do not need professional experience in singing and dancing, but want to show their talents to the fullest.
This project is supported by the Office of Cultural Development of the Municipality of Caguas.
