Governor of the Falklands, Alison Blake CMG

2022 has been a very important and busy year for the newly created City of Stanley and for the whole of the Falklands, marking the fortieth anniversary of the liberation of the Falkland Islands and South Georgia, with a proportionate and sometimes very inspiring programme. those events. Events that have been there to take heart, reminders, community and sharing.

These events have brought together war veterans, and their families, islanders and visitors from Britain and beyond to remember the sacrifices of so many, and to mark what that hard-earned freedom has been built on here. Brought along

Along with many in the rest of the world, this year we celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, and we mourn the loss of our much-loved monarch, Her Majesty the Late Queen Elizabeth II, and we welcome the inauguration of King Carlos III. .and the queen consort.

It’s been a very busy year for my husband Pete and I, but it’s been a truly wonderful five months since we arrived in this beautiful place and I became your 37th governor.

Little by little we are getting to know the islands and its people, and seeing firsthand the warm welcome, hard work, community spirit and pioneering commitment to the environment that make this place so special.

2022 has been hard work for both the Falkland Islands Government and the Falkland Islands community. What they can be proud of is what they have achieved, which has also included memorable and important events that saw special receptions from a number of dignitaries and official visitors, including the Princess Royal, UK and Scottish ministers and Westminster MPs.

We also welcomed the return of LATAM civilian flights and so many cruise ships and their passengers.

As we give thanks for our families and friends and for those whose lives have crossed our paths, I know you will join me in expressing our gratitude to all those whose service and dedication, Note the support and care for the community, especially at this time, with everyone. Those on call, working or volunteering, support our community after hours, on weekends and during the holiday holiday period.

Let us look forward to a peaceful and promising new year. Conflict, famine, drought and natural disasters, economic downturn and the COVID pandemic challenge all of us to find a better and sustainable way of living and to cooperate across borders and divisions.

There is hope, work is underway to address the effects of climate change and preserve biodiversity, where Falkland’s rural farmers are custodians of our wildlife and land and marine resources, and whose contributions our scientists can be proud of Huh.

Lastly, I want to thank all of you for all that you have done and wish you all a Merry Christmas and a 2023 filled with peace and happiness.
