Mexican semiconductor firm interested in settling in Queretaro

Queretaro, Quero. There are at least two semiconductor companies interested in settling in Queretaro, confirms Esas Magallanes Alonso, state president of the National Chamber of the Transformation Industry (Canacintra).

These are the companies with the Mexican capital that have touched base with Canasintra’s Querétaro delegation.

The industrialist said that he has already had a meeting with one of them and is about to start with the other. These companies will be linked to the state government through the Sustainable Development Secretariat (SEDESU) to monitor their investment intentions.

“There are already projects that are about to start, here in Queretaro, I know of two companies that are already coming to settle here, Semiconductors (…) They’re Mexican. They’re just Looking at the possibility of setting up here, in fact, we’re just looking at it with Sedessu so that they take charge of what’s missing, they’ll decide whether they (the companies) will stay”, explained Esau Magellan. .

These projects face a semiconductor crisis that persists across supply chains, particularly affecting the automotive industry.

opportunity

The Mexico-United States (DEAN) annual meeting of the High-Level Economic Dialogue, in which the country was invited to be part of semiconductors production, he stressed—is an opportunity for Mexico, but also for Queretaro.

“There is still a shortage (semiconductors), and with Mexico meeting with the United States, one of the main proposals is to build a semiconductor production plant in Mexico; I think this is a great opportunity for Queretaro and Mexico, that the United States is asking us to build plants here”, he said.

Canasintra’s local leader said the unit has companies with the potential to provide input to semiconductor manufacturers, in addition to the fact that this type of investment attracts a product and service supplier base.

Regarding the shortage of semiconductors for automobiles, Essa Magellans said the situation persists, but to a lesser extent than the first effects of the pandemic.

“I think the worst is over, that it was in the pandemic, when a year ago there was a shortage of cars. There is still (deficit), but it’s already important, if you look at the agencies they were the first. Already with cars, some brands are failing, but in general I think it is already being fixed,” he said.

According to Sedessu’s head, Marco Antonio del Prete Tercero, there is a potential for the state to join the supply chain of the semiconductor industry; However, he mentioned, it is difficult for companies dedicated to manufacturing these chips to reach the unit, as they are demanding a lot of water, while the state has the challenge of guaranteeing water supply.
