Through social networks and lottery tickets, Mexico announced the 23 players who will compete on this FIFA date.
With letters from the lottery, the official site of the Mexican women’s national team announced the call of coach Pedro López for Mexico’s start in the qualifying tournament for the 2024 Concacaf W Gold Cup, which will take place from February 17 to March 10 in the United States.
The list is led by defending Liga MX Femenil champions América and Amazonas de Tigres with five players each, while finalists Pachuca only contributed three players.
Likewise, Scarlett Camberos is back on the Mexican national team, having had to leave America and emigrate to the National Women’s Soccer League in the United States due to harassment issues.
Below are the names of the players selected by Spanish coach Pedro López, announced through the same dynamic with which the Mexican national team announced the first call-up of Jaime Lozano, using personalized lottery cards and with the participation of Liga MX teams.
The team that will face Puerto Rico on September 22nd at the Azteca Stadium consisted of the following 23 players:
Kenti Robles, captain of Real Madrid, as well as Greta Espinoza, Alexia Delgado, Anika Rodríguez, Stephany Mayor and Cristina Ferral for the Amazonas.
Likewise, Reyna Reyes was selected for the Guadalajara Atlas, while María Sánchez and Diana Ordóñez were called up for the Houston Dash of the National Women’s Soccer League in the United States.
From the current champions Águilas del América, Karina Rodríguez, Kiana Palacios, Natalie Mauleón, Kumberly Rodríguez and Itzel González will make up this Mexican national team that is preparing for its commitments in search of a ticket to the W Gold Cup.
Jasmine Casarez was called up for Bravas de Juárez, while Chivas del Guadalajara contributed two players: Carolina Jaramillo and Araceli Torres.
Likewise, and as previously mentioned, Scarlett Camberos, currently a player for Angel City FC in the National Women’s Soccer League, is returning to Mexico.
For Rayadas the selected list consists of: Christina Burkenroad and Alejandría Godínez, while for the Tuzas del Pachuca they were called: Charlyn Corral, Estephanny Barreras and Karla Nieto.
The big absentees on Pedro López’s list
There are a few notable absences from this list when it comes to players who won gold medals at the recent Central American and Caribbean Games.
Among the most important are the names of Katty Martínez, now a striker for America, as well as Alicia Cervantes of Chivas and Jacqueline Ovalle of Tigres.
