The city of Miami, in the United States, has a rental assistance program for seniors. This initiative was launched in January 2020 and is intended to help residents aged 62 and over.
The proposal is based on delivering $500.00 USD per month for one year to a landlord who rents a home to an older adult. This plan was continued on Friday, December 1 of this year.
The call is open until 5 p.m. on January 2, 2024. The authorities assured that this support would be given to people with certain characteristics, such as those who live in Miami.
Other requirements apply
Seniors make no more than half of the area’s median income. Another requirement is to use more than a third of the monthly payment to pay the rent on your house.
The location of this lot must be within the district of Miami. The beneficiary does not owe money to the owner of the premises and must have a legal rental contract.
Those interested can obtain printed applications at City Hall and the Commissioner’s offices. Among the information that citizens must provide is the tax return and an updated copy of the rental contract.
You must also submit a copy of your Florida state identification card and a current monthly payment sample. Expired documents will not be accepted, and multiple requests for the same house will not be allowed.
This program has a limited budget, so only a portion of the eligible population can access it. Applicants who are unlikely to receive assistance will not receive notification.
The approved requests will be divided into districts, with the aim of creating a numerical list of those selected. Homeowners will be notified immediately upon submission of the W-9 form regarding their taxpayer status.
