LOS ANGELES ( Associated Press) – Michelle Obama’s recent book tour, which featured several celebrities, will be turned into a podcast.
Audible announced Wednesday that the former First Lady of the United States will launch “Michelle Obama: The Light Podcast” on March 7. It is based on a tour promoting Obama’s most recent book, “The Light We Carry”, which featured special guests Oprah Winfrey, Ellen DeGeneres, Tyler Perry, David Letterman, among other celebrities.
“While only a few thousand people were able to attend the event, these incredible conversations can already be heard by all,” Audible said in a press release. The eight-episode podcast “goes beyond the book as Michelle Obama and her friends share personal stories and information viewers won’t find anywhere else.”
Obama said in a statement that the tour allowed him to expand on the book’s reflections on dealing with stress and change, noting that it was an opportunity to “reconnect with real people”. The podcast, he said, is “an in-depth examination of those fun and meaningful moments.”
Obama released the book “The Light We Carry” on November 15 and began his campaign tour that night. She was joined in Washington for the first event by DeGeneres.
The podcast is the first original project in a multi-year deal between Audible and Higher Ground Productions, which Barack and Michelle Obama created after leaving the White House. The company has produced several well-known documentaries, including the Oscar-winning “American Factory”.
Episodes of “The Light Podcast” will be exclusively on Audible for two weeks, and will be available on other platforms thereafter.
