‘Body positive’ is more than a global trend. It is a reflection of the reality of acceptance of the diversity of bodies and forms that actually exist and that are also worthy of appreciation and representation. And though it seems to be few and far between in Latin America, the movement is taking firm steps, like Maria Claire Mexico magazine’s recent cover starring Mexican actress and comedian Michelle Rodriguez, that sends a powerful message of its own—they Accepting people who, like them, have faced discrimination because of their appearance.
RodrÃguez is 39 years old, 1.43 m tall, dark haired and in good shape, but is not a guitar player. Additionally, the Xochimilco native is openly bisexual and has been featured in the February issue of the magazine which has historically been dedicated to the theme of Valentine’s Day. But with her on the cover, the focus is on self-love.
The publication shared the magazine’s cover image highlighting, among other things, that Michelle “shares a powerful message about the importance of being yourself and being the best company you can be.”
And the comedian himself has echoed the publication with an emotional response message. The producer said, “Here we go and we are going strong. Thank you to the whole team for this great win.” Similarly, in one of his IG stories, he celebrated how 2023 started in such a positive and incredible way.
It is very important for Rodriguez to talk about the fact that it is possible to achieve dreams. Over the years it has been determined to normalize the mind and the need to open spaces to diversity. Likewise, he sees it as a priority that new generations are exposed to more inclusive representations so that they act empathetically and generously.
