The Surface Duo hit the market three years ago with Android 10. Microsoft’s foldable phone confirmed the death of Windows 10 Mobile and the company’s return to the phone market. The bet, of course, comes with a folding phone to compete with Samsung and strengthen the Surface ecosystem.
Although Microsoft’s first bet was strong, over time we saw how the company did not stop taking care of the device. Surface Duo users have encountered problems with updates or even the lack thereof. Now, three years after its launch, the support cycle has ended.
The Surface Duo received three years of support and two versions of Android
At launch, Microsoft committed to three years of updates for the Surface Duo (the same for the Surface Duo 2). However, there is no time to specify how many versions of Android it will update and how it will be done. Finally, there are two: It was updated to Android 11 and received Android 12L months later.
Of course, Surface Duo users can still enjoy the device. In the world of Android, applications are continuously updated and can be used up to a few years later without any problems. and The main disadvantage is that they do not receive security updates which poses a risk.

In any case, Microsoft will continue to support the Surface Duo 2 for another year, until October 21, 2024. So far, the foldable has only received one Android update, so we should see at least one more.
